SOUNDS LiKE CHAOS #003

Hi Reader,

After screening our short film Ballyman, we are BACK with our third newsletter, including a sit down with Artist Associate Faruq Adigun, new events, a packed Opportunities Board and more.

Refugee Week: Seeds of Sanctuary & New Roots Radio

Seeds of Sanctuary

Join us for a Seed Parcel Making workshop as part of a vibrant, Refugee Week celebration on Saturday 21 June, hosted by Lewisham Refugee and Migrant Network.

Saturday 21 June, 10am - 4pm

The Albany, Douglas Way, London SE8 4AG

New Roots Radio

New Roots is a radio project in collaboration with Lewisham Refugee and Migrant Network Campaigners and organisers weaving together music and lived experiences of people navigating displacement. Through a blend of sound, story, and reflection, the series explores what it means to build a sense of belonging in unfamiliar places/ the process of becoming familiar.

The first series on 19 June centres on the theme of home reimagined, and found again. Support Associate Christine Bramwell and LRMN's project by tuning into Sister Midnight FM.

what's that then? Rights With Rhinestones: Anti-raids workshop

Each month, an associate will be seed-funded to present a small-scale version of their idea to young people in Deptford.

On Saturday 5 July, Lambeth and Southwark Anti Raids will be hosting a Rights with Rhinestones workshop.

Learn about rights during immigration raids and how to support each other—while adding some sparkle to your belongings with colourful rhinestones! Feel free to bring along any belongings you'd like give a new shine to.

ARTiST HIGHLIGHT

Every month, we feature artists we have worked with, from SOUNDS LiKE CHAOS Associates to frequent collaborators and local artists.

This month, we are celebrating Artist Associate Faruq Adigun, who is also the writer and performer of the short Ballyman, co-produced and co-directed with SOUNDS LiKE CHAOS and VIDEOfeet.

Faruq is a multidisciplinary artist based in South East London, whose creative journey began under the theatre’s lights as an actor. Guided by instinct and curiosity, he soon found his voice expanding beyond the stage—into writing, directing, and the rhythm of music. Faruq’s work moves through disciplines, each form a new language for the stories he feels compelled to tell. Whether on stage or in sound, his art pulses with intention, rooted in truth and driven by a desire to connect.

We sat down with Faruq to discuss the naming of Ballyman, the film-making process and what the future holds.
